A man posing as a council employee talked his way into an elderly resident’s home in the centre of West Lavington last night. The man, of stocky build and wearing a face mask, knocked on the window at 6:45pm before convincing the residents to allow him inside. The intruder left and nothing was taken.
Please be cautious of distraction burglaries and always ask for ID if someone asks to enter your home. Often someone may distract you at the front door while an accomplice enters the rear of the property, or distracts you inside the kitchen or living room while someone else sneaks in through the unlocked front door.
Thankfully this is a very rare occurrence in West Lavington and Littleton Panell but please be vigilant. If you see anyone acting suspiciously around your home or nearby properties, call 101. If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours do check on them if you have any concerns.
